Inspired by the book A miséria do mundo, published by Pierre Bourdieu and collaborators in 1993, this article aims to develop a double objective: the first is to place under scrutiny some processes of social and spatial segregation that occurred in the city of Belo Horizonte - MG, taking as references, both reports from teaching professionals in the Education of Youth and Adults, as well as testimonies from community leaders, who raise their voices against discrimination by address. The second objective seeks to highlight some pedagogical proposals that can contribute to transforming peripheral or segregated schools, from the socio-spatial point of view, into guardians of the struggle memories of the popular layers in the face of the processes of exclusion and social subalternization.
