Este artigo busca retratar os resultados da pesquisa realizada nas escolas municipais de Cascavel–PR acerca da implantação da Lei Federal nº 11.769/08, que dispõe sobre a obrigatoriedade do ensino de Música como conteúdo do componente curricular Arte nas escolas de Educação Básica e tecer algumas considerações acerca das representações dos professores sobre a realidade escolar relacionada à implementação da Educação Musical. O estudo evidenciou, entre outros aspectos, a formação descontinuada e fragmentada do professor, que tem resultado num espontaneísmo na ação docente, e a secundarização do componente curricular Arte pela Secretaria Municipal de Educação.
