This article presents preliminary reflections from a study that aimed to map the silences emerging during reading mediations in a public school, seeking to under stand how children, situated in specific contexts, are affected by texts and interaction dynamics. To this end, the analysis focuse dont he relationship between children's speech and silences during these mediation moments. There search highlights that silences play a crucial role in meaning-making, serving as spacesforreflection and interpretation. The study is grounded in theoretic alframe works such as Bajour (2012, 2023), Orlandi (2007), Chambers (2023), Larrosa (2015), and Yunes and Oswald (2004), reinforcing the importance of valuing both speech and silence as constitutive elements of reading.
