EDUCATIONAL POLYSSEMY IN THE CONTEXT OF AUTHORITY GOVERNMENTS: EDUCATION AS A TRANSMITTER OF DICTATORIAL IDEOLOGIES AND AS AN INSTRUMENT FOR DEMOCRACY

The present study aimed to analyze the meanings of education under a conception that concerns its ambiguous meaning in different societies, reaching the conclusion that its instrumentalization can, on the one hand, help in the implementation of authoritarian regimes, and on the other, be strong armament in the fight against anti-democratic threats. In this way, the study's main objectives are to address the importance of education in social structures and in the construction of its citizens, in addition to analyzing the patterns linked to dictatorial governments from a pedagogical perspective. The signs and the way in which authoritarian States usually carry out this educational control were also analyzed from a critical perspective that is based on antecedent historical facts, such as the Military Dictatorship of 64. Therefore, the qualitative method was used through bibliographical research , seeking to outline the theme in dialogue with authors who addressed topics relating to democracy and authoritarianism, in addition to an in-depth historical analysis seeking to relate similar aspects in dictatorial periods.
