The present paper analyzes, inserted in the field of History of Education, the use of cinematography for childhood education in Minas Gerais between the years 1925 and 1930. For this purpose, it takes as its research source the Revista do Ensino, an official journal of Minas Gerais government, created in 1925 and circulated until 1971, which was widely used for formation and conformation of teaching practice in the state. The results show that the cinematograph worked as device for the formation of what would be the new Brazilian citizen, the child, modifying his/her habits and customs in a more attractive and effective way, in urban and rural school institutions.
