This article addresses the phenomenon of World-Class Universities, their implications for university teaching work, and resistance to the model in the USA and Brazil. It is based on bibliographic research, drawing from books and articles published in national and international journals. The text discusses the shaping of the world-class model in the USA driven by capitalist dynamics within institutions, reflecting the intersection of education, research, economy, and power, while Brazil adopts the model under international pressure with its own characteristics. We demonstrate that the universalization of this model has consequences for teaching work in the USA and Brazil, the main one being the precariousness of teaching work. Finally, we discuss the role of unions and teaching resistance to the model.
