DIGITAL SOCIAL MEDIA PLATFORMS AND ALGORITHMS: CHANGES IN THE SOCIAL PRACTICES OF ELEMENTARY SCHOOL STUDENTS

Abstract

This article presents a theoretical bibliographic essay of an exploratory nature, on the concepts of Digital Social Network Platform and Algorithms. Its objective is to establish reflections and present subsidies on the possible impacts that such tools can promote on the social practices of elementary school students, considering that such subjects are increasingly frequent users of these platforms. Among the disputes (promoted and encouraged by algorithms) we can mention: addiction to cell phones, filter bubbles, echo chambers, among other consequences that have an impact on everyday school life. This essay concludes that the consequences of algorithms, often invisible, are urgently needed to be put on the agenda in school spaces, debated and discussed by everyone involved in the school community (students, teachers, parents and pedagogical team). These writings and reflections form part of the theoretical framework of a doctoral thesis that is in progress in the Postgraduate Program in Education, at a University located in the southern region of Brazil.
