Abstract

Using philosopher Theodor W. Adorno’s formulations as a basis, this article presents some considerations on the potential of art and philosophy for revealing the limits and possibilities of cultural (de)formation. Between escapes and mirrors, art and philosophy are discussed from two perspectives: the ?rst, dealing with art, starts with fantasy/imagination, which, as an escape, allows for the establishment of mediation between what was betrayed by culture and the possibility of transcending it; in the intertwining of art and philosophy, the second perspective presents some approximations and di?erences between essay and art, based on the crucial task of philosophy: endless provocation and questioning on aspects of reality, both universal and private.
