Abstract

An experiment with pearl millet (Pennisetum glaucum) cv ADR-300 under nitrogen doses (0, 50, 100 and 150 kg.ha-1) at two residual height cuts (0.20 and 0.25 m) was carried out to evaluate dry matter production and chemical composition. The experiment was carried out at Universidade Federal de Goiás. The experimental design used was randomized blocks in a 4 x 3 factorial arrangement, with three replications. Dry matter production (DMP), dry matter content (DM), crude protein (CP), acid detergent fiber (ADF) and neutral detergent fiber (NDF) were evaluated. The DMP differed (P<0.05) among the N doses and cuts. DM content decreased as N doses increased. The addition of N doses promoted a rise of CP content at all the cuts. CP content decreased with the cuts succession. The NDF tenors differed (P<0.05) with the succession of the cuts at both heights. The ADF values (P<0.05) differed in function of the addition of N doses and the succession of the cuts. Pearl millet showed production and chemical composition variation in the performed treatments, thus, it is recommended for animal feeding that this forage plant is used at the residual height of 0.25 m and with application of a N dose of 150 kg.ha-1.
