PERROS Y GATOS COMO ESPECIES EXÓTICAS INVASORAS: UN MARCO EDUCATIVO PARA ENSEÑAR EN EL AULA LA IMPORTANCIA DE LA TENENCIA RESPONSABLE DE MASCOTAS PARA LA CONSERVACIÓN DE LA FAUNA NATIVA.

El avance de la urbanización sobre los entornos naturales y la propagación de especies exóticas constituyen dos de las principales amenazas a la biodiversidad. Los perros y gatos domésticos son especies exóticas invasoras y tienen un efecto negativo en los ecosistemas ya que pueden depredar, competir y transmitir enfermedades a la fauna nativa. Distintos estudios sugieren que los programas de educación orientados a fomentar la tenencia responsable de mascotas pueden contribuir a mitigar el problema de la sobrepoblación de perros y gatos y por lo tanto reducir el impacto negativo sobre la fauna nativa. Este trabajo busca contribuir a la conservación de la biodiversidad mitigando el impacto de perros y gatos en la fauna nativa a través de la educación sobre la tenencia responsable de mascotas. Para ello, se fundamenta una propuesta educativa para que los estudiantes reconozcan el rol de perros y gatos como especies exóticas invasoras y la importancia de la tenencia responsable de mascotas para mitigar su impacto, y se presenta el taller diseñado con tal propósito. El estudio se llevó a cabo en escuelas de nivel secundario del partido de Escobar (Buenos Aires), el cual presenta un alto valor biológico y la problemática abordada se ve fuertemente representada. Los resultados parciales de la implementación del taller reflejan un alto grado de novedad por parte del estudiantado respecto de los contenidos abordados y una alta predisposición a difundir la importancia de la tenencia responsable de mascotas.
