Abstract

This work evaluated the effect of including yeast culture on live weight gain, intake and apparent digestibility of the dry matter (DM), organic matter (OM), crude protein (CP), ether extract (EE), neutral detergent fiber (NDF) and acid detergent fiber (ADF), hemicellulose (HCEL), total carbohydrates (TCHO) and nonfiber carbohydrates (NFC). Two experiments were realized using ½ Red Angus ½ Nellore steers fed with 1:1 ratio of forage: concentrate, of the DM). Both experiments were in completely randomized design and the treatments were (two out of four diets) with or without yeast culture (1 g/100 kg of live weight). In the first experiment, a feeding trial was conducted with four groups of forty animals in a commercial feedlot. Two groups were fed diets with yeast culture and two groups without. In the second experiment ten cannulated steers were randomly allocated to one of the two treatments. No differences (P>0.05) between treatments were observed for intake and apparent digestibility of DM, OM, CP, EE, NDF, ADF, HCEL, TCHO e NFC. Also, no differences (P>0.05) were observed between treatments for live weight gain in the feedlot steers. These results indicate that with a 1:1 ratio of forage:concentrate, the supplementation with yeast culture did not influence weight gain, intake and apparent digestibility
