Unequal investments in the state of São Paulo led regions such as Oeste Paulista to present industrial expansion and its export capacity on a smaller scale. With this broader context, we evaluated the economic dynamics of the Presidente Prudente/SP municipality with emphasis on the industrial sector showing the transformations that occurred in the locations of transformation activities from the 1980s onwards, with updates in 2010 and 2019. In foreign trade terms, we demonstrate how it contributes through the export of commodities and how it has become the engine to keep the municipality in surplus. We indicate the relevance of commerce and services for spatial relations and how it influences the polarization of nearby municipalities and with others located in neighboring states. The presented results show how Presidente Prudente/SP, considers the industrial sector, has low participation in the state’s total wealth, mainly if we consider more complex and diversified production data, going beyond the local capital and agro-industrial industries that, on the other hand, go beyond the regional space to configure themselves in multiscale and heterarchical relationships.
