Peer Review
Peer Review
Música Hodie accepts submissions on a rolling basis in Portuguese, English, or Spanish, in the categories of articles, reviews, and interviews (in the "Outras Palavras" section).
The default evaluation model adopted by the journal's platform is double-blind peer review. However, Música Hodie also accepts manuscripts previously deposited as Preprints in the SciELO repository and allows for open peer review formats, provided there is mutual agreement between authors and reviewers.
Double-Blind Review
The double-blind review process begins with submission via the OJS platform. The Editor conducts a preliminary analysis to verify compliance with the journal's guidelines and scope. If suitable, the manuscript is forwarded to two ad hoc reviewers, maintaining anonymity between authors and reviewers. Once the evaluations are received, an editorial decision is communicated to the authors.
Instructions for Double-Blind Submission:
- Submit your manuscript exclusively via the journal's platform: https://www.revistas.ufg.br/musica
- Ensure compliance with all Submission Requirements and that your manuscript adheres to the Author Guidelines.
- Remove any identifying information from the file properties, acknowledgments, or self-citations. All materials must be appropriately anonymized.
- Ensure that all authors' profiles are complete:
- In the "Contact" tab: fill in the full affiliation (University acronym, city, state, country);
- In the "Public" tab, provide an academic biography and professional background.
- Include the ORCID ID and a valid URL (Lattes for Brazilian authors, institutional URL for others).
Submissions missing any of these data may be rejected.
Research Involving Human Subjects – Ethics Committee
Articles involving human subjects, whether directly or indirectly (interviews, surveys, observations, recordings, personal data, or images), must include:
- Statement of approval by a Research Ethics Committee (REC), including:
- Name of the approving institution;
- Protocol or approval number;
- Date of approval.
- Indication or attachment of informed consent forms (ICF), signed by participants or legal guardians.
- Declaration of voluntary participation and confidentiality procedures.
- Instruments used (e.g., surveys, interview guides) should be made available, preferably in open data repositories such as:
- SciELO Data: https://data.scielo.org
- Institutional repositories or trusted academic platforms.
If the research involves sensitive or restricted data:
- Justify the restriction on public access.
- Provide a contact point for controlled access.
Música Hodie will not proceed with peer review if ethics approval or data transparency are lacking. This is not merely a journal policy but a requirement for indexation in SciELO and DOAJ and (for Brazilian authors) compliance with Plataforma Brasil/CONEP.
Open Science and Preprints
Música Hodie supports Open Science practices, encouraging transparency, free access to knowledge, and the use of open repositories.
Authors may submit manuscripts previously deposited in SciELO Preprints (https://preprints.scielo.org). These receive a DOI and can be publicly cited and discussed prior to peer review.
Submission of preprints must be indicated in the "Comments to the Editor" field, with a direct link. Peer review may occur openly if mutually agreed. Reviewer reports may be appended to the final article, and reviewer identities disclosed.
Authors are encouraged to deposit data, code, and research instruments in open repositories such as SciELO Data . If restrictions apply, they must be justified, and access contact provided.
All authors must complete the Open Science Compliance Form
Peer Review Workflow
Música Hodie follows a double-blind peer review process and continuously publishes within an annual volume. Depending on the complexity of the review, the average time from submission to publication is up to six months.
Workflow stages:
- Initial screening by the Editor (scope and formatting);
- Assignment to two ad hoc reviewers (anonymity ensured);
- Editorial decision based on reviews;
- Revisions by authors, if necessary;
- Final revision, editing, DOI assignment, and publication.
The journal offers authors and reviewers the option of open peer review, upon mutual agreement.
Reviewer Responsibilities:
- Provide objective and constructive feedback.
- Suggest relevant literature and improvements.
- Declare absence of conflicts of interest.
- Respect confidentiality and the authors' intellectual independence.
Reviewer names may be published at the end of the issue, without linking them to specific articles.
