Music education, curriculum and interdisciplinarity are three themes addressed in this text in dialogue with selected documents that belong to Brazilian educational legislation. Three main focuses guide the discussions on: the inclusion of music in Brazilian legislation and its mandatory inclusion in the curriculum; music as a specific subject in the curriculum or inserted in multipurpose practices; and interdisciplinary perspectives in the training and performance of professionals who work in basic education schools. These themes are presented and discussed considering specialized literature in music education and education, with educational legislation as a reference for selected aspects of different regulations. Based on the discussions presented, the text concludes with reflections that contemplate the viability of music in the basic education curriculum, the review of multipurpose practices and the interdisciplinary perspective as a way of overcoming the fragmentation of knowledge and curriculum, both in basic education and in teacher preparation. To create spaces for music education in the curriculum, including interdisciplinary perspectives in school pedagogical actions, it is necessary to mobilize music education professionals together with different institutions and government agencies, for collective work in favor of effective changes for the presence of music in Brazilian schools, making it democratically accessible to all students.
