The text is an attribute to the 40th anniversary of the first master's thesis in Music in Brazil, The Non Legato in the work of Johann Sebastian Bach for keyboard, and its author, Margarida Maria Furtado-Weinberger. After a brief comment on the pioneering role of the UFRJ School of Music in the musical academic scene, we present the dissertation, with reflections about the development of research in performance. We conclude by pointing out relevant aspects of the research model carried out at the time, highlighting the contribution that this pioneering dissertation represents for Brazil.
