As we have discussed in previous studies (XXXX), Joaquim Francisco dos Santos (1873-1935), Quincas Laranjeiras, played a significant role as a cultural mediator through his compositional and artistic activities, contributing to the circulation of the guitar in various sociocultural spaces in first decades of the twentieth century. The present article aims to demonstrate, anchored in the available literature and in scores and primary sources collected in newspapers of the time, that his pedagogical activities (focusing on the relationship with the “classical guitarists”) also became a decisive aspect of this “transitive identity” (LLANOS, 2018), becoming one of the factors that allowed the instrument to overcome practical and symbolic barriers and increase its circularity in the society of Rio de Janeiro.
