This article is a comparative study about the concept of body for piano teaching-learning from the mechanistic and phenomenological approaches. In the mechanistic view, I took as a basis Cartesian dualism, which establishes a substantial separation between reason and body. Within phenomenology, I use the concept of own body developed by Merleau-Ponty (1908-1961), which defines the body as an indivisible totality in which there is no classic dichotomy between mind and body. For phenomenology, motricity and expression occur through the foundational relationship. In the mechanistic approach, however, the interrelationship between these aspects happens through hierarchization.
