Abstract

Structuring and grouping influence the mental fragmentation of sounds in memory, so they have been considered as fundamental elements in modern theories of musical cognition. In this work a review of scientific contributions to the knowledge of the phenomena of temporal structuring, grouping of events and formation of rhythmic patterns is carried out. With this, it is intended to outline and offer an updated overview of some of the factors facilitating the cognitive processing of the rhythm, to later consider these elements in the initial musical formation. The main findings indicate that the regularity of rhythmic patterns is a key element for their processing. In addition, rhythmic sequences with 2:1 ratios seem to be the easiest to reproduce and perceive.
