For centuries, the desire to establish correspondences between sound and image has intrigued researchers and evoked many questions and analogies. This paper aims to introduce the reader to concerns about sound and image to show the importance of developing a plastic-art mode of thought in order to arrive at a musical interpretation. Historical information based on Bosseur’s work supports the first part. The second part consists of a discussion about the concept of time based on Nattiez and artists’ writings (Da Vinci, Klee, Delaunay, Gould and Messiaen). The last part regards the visual dimension of music associated with musical interpretation. Keywords: Visual; Interpretation; Musical image and time.
