The purpose of this article was to investigate the strategies used by a teacher who used Educar pela Pesquisa as teaching methodology. Of a qualitative nature, of the case study type, the research was carried out in a Licentiate course at a Federal Institute. As instruments, a survey questionnaire, observation and interview were used. The results showed an alignment with the proposed literature, which confirms the importance of the educator basing his practices on specific theoretical references to what is proposed. It is also noteworthy that the strategies provided students with engagement, authorship, intrinsic interest in carrying out activities, as well as commitment to their own learning, characteristics of active methodologies, hence stating that Educating through Research can be considered as such.
