The text is the result of attentive listening to university students, graduates of basic education and a project
developed at the Federal University of Pernambuco (UFPE) - Academic Center of Agreste (CAA) entitled:
“SCIENTIFIC INITIATION FOR BASIC EDUCATION: a necessary challenge for students and teachers
who move between school and university”, situated in the epistemic context of the Teaching, Learning and
Educational Processes Research Group – GPENAPE. Their objective is: “contributions of scientific
initiation fostered to student learning” and as a central question: What contributions does scientific initiation
in high school make to the students’ trajectory in the rite of passage between Basic Education and
University? We adopted a semi-structured interview, the participants are higher education students,
graduates of the project. The contexts studied are two basic education schools, one public, the other private.
We analyzed the data from the perspective of Content Analysis, (Franco, 2008). The results show that the
project contributed to sharpening curiosity, analytical skills, improving reading, and increasing the desire
to go to University. The “findings” indicate the need to resume the project, with the possibility of the
participation of basic education students and in the conduction, the participation of University students, as
a return to the training path.
