This research analyzes the perceptions of three mothers of children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder
(ASD) about their children's school inclusion process. The interviews were recorded and fully transcribed,
whose data were submitted to a qualitative approach. The narratives range from the impact of the diagnosis to
attempts at treatment and schooling, according to the guidelines of health and education professionals. The
results indicated that the mothers showed expectations focused on socialization and cognitive development,
although they perceived difficulties on the part of the school and its team in developing educational activities
capable of really including children and not just integrating them into the school space. It was also observed
that mothers, as they monitor the development of their children, found that regular schools do not have a
multidisciplinary team to help teachers and other members of the school community to understand specialized
educational services. Knowing the mothers' conceptions is important to promote the school inclusion of autistic
children, which occurs through the effective participation of both those responsible and the school team in its
entirety.
