Abstract

The history of the emergence of natural paints (earth paint) is recorded in caves from the Paleolithic period. Protected from the effects of time, the images created using natural paints and portraying a little of the daily lives of humans at that time have been preserved to this day. Today, paints made with soil serve several functions, including pedagogical, as it is important to think about possibilities to address the topic of soils in School Geography. Starting from the contextualization provided, this work aims to report a didactic-pedagogical experience with the use of soil paints in School Geography as a way of promoting the importance of the pedological approach and promoting the popularization of Soil Education at school. In methodological terms, the research is empirical and qualitative in nature, with experience reporting as its main modality. The activity was developed with 27 students from the 6th year class at Escola Municipal Tiradentes, located in Campina Grande-PB, during the author's master's research during the 2nd academic quarter of 2022, between April and June. As a result, there was enthusiasm and awakening to the process of building knowledge among the students involved in the proposed activity. The different natural and artificial landscapes produced on the screens by the participants made them reflect on different geographic environments, going beyond verbal and conceptual language. Furthermore, the importance of thinking about didactic-pedagogical strategies to be developed on the topic of soils stands out, as this content often appears in a summarized form in Geography textbooks.
