The school museum as a didactic-pedagogical proposal to the study of geography in the early years of elementary school

The text presents preliminary considerations about the doctoral research in Geography, carried out at the Postgraduate Program in Geography at the State University of Western Paraná – UNIOESTE/ Francisco Beltrão campus. The objective is to evaluate the sense and pedagogical significance of the museum for the teaching and learning of Geography, in the time-space relationship in the Initial Years of Elementary School. The development took place from a didactic-pedagogical proposal for the study of Geography, with students from the 3rd years of the Initial Years of Elementary School at Professor Pedro Algeri Municipal School from Francisco Beltrão/PR. The purpose consisted in the construction, organization and socialization of an exhibition, in the form of a museum in the school environment, With the aim of studying the geographic contents, proposed for this school stage of the participants. The research methodology is characterized as a case study; the results signaled from the evaluation of teachers, students and family members, point to the feasibility of the proposed activity of the school museum, as a way of stimulating the teaching and learning process of geographic content, which collaborated in the sense of providing an understanding of the pedagogical meaning and for the process of educative and citizen formation of the students. By experiencing the practice of a school museum as a didactic-pedagogical alternative, geographic education is realized beyond the school environment.
