The article explores the marginalization of Brazilian Indigenous narratives within the academic sphere, addressing how orality is often disregarded in favor of written tradition. The central issue is the undervaluation of oral cultural practices, which contributes to the diminished academic recognition of Indigenous knowledge. The objectives are to analyze the historical exclusion of Indigenous peoples from academia and to assess the implications of this exclusion for the preservation of their narratives. Using a qualitative approach and bibliographic review, the research identifies that the hegemony of writing and historical Eurocentrism has relegated oral traditions to a lower status. It concludes that integrating oral traditions with written forms is crucial for a fairer representation of Indigenous peoples and that academia must reassess its criteria for knowledge validation to promote effective inclusion of these cultures.
