This article exposes a comparative analysis of two short documentaries that deal with a cultural manifestation called "caretagem" belonging to the district of Santo Antônio - BA. The work investigates how the concepts of memory and identity can be observed in the films when considering the documentary as a "Document of memory" from the audiovisual record of the subjects that make up the demonstration. Finally, it is observed from the analyzes that the documentary serves as an instrument capable of accessing different narrative times about a given phenomenon, since it encompasses what is narrated by the characters, but also what is recorded by the camera at the time of the shot.
