Abstract

Goiânia, since the 1960s, was the stage for a so-called Capoeira Angola, with Manoel Pio Sales, Mestre Sabú (1940 – 2017), from Goiás who grew up in Salvador and who, according to his own reports, had formative experiences, especially with Mestre Caiçara. However, from the 1990s onwards, capoeiristas initiated by Mestre Zumbi, adhered to Capoeira Angola and started in the city works quite different from Mestre Sabú's proposal, given their approximation, with the movement of Capoeira Angola in Salvador that emerged from the decade onwards. 1980, when this, after a long period of agony, goes through a process of political reassertion and reorganization, intensifying the discourse of the peculiarity of this aspect. In this article, we present a discussion about the presence of Capoeira Angola in the city of Goiânia, seeking to contextualize and understand the discourses on this practice and how it affects the current scenario.
