The article describes a sound installation developed in the doctoral in Digital Media Art (2022). “Quintal dos Sons” aims to reflect on contemporary sounds, inviting participants to interact with sounds triggered by proximity sensors. The research combines artistic practice and theoretical investigation, using the Arts Based Research methodology. The sounds in the installation reflect the concept of Soundscapes, encompassing sounds of nature and sounds produced by humans, exploring the extremes of contemporary life. In the development of the artistic work, we include sound mapping and observation of urban spaces, using technology in recording soundscapes and constructing the artifact. The sonic narrative spans from the first sounds of human birth to the connection with nature, urban noises, and traditional songs of the Jequitinhonha Valley. The metaphor of the backyard and the image of the bridge, similar in Porto and Almenara-Vale do Jequitinhonha-MG, are crucial elements in the creative process, reflecting the life of the author and the communities. The article concludes by emphasizing the importance of musical activity as inherently human, associating geographical experiences with cultural and physical heritage, serving as a test substrate for scientific-artistic sound activities.
