This article presents a research in a Music Degree course on the curricular trajectories of the students in relation to their previous musical experiences. Taking dialectical materialism as theoretical-methodological approach, especially the contributions of the cultural-historical theory of Vigotski and collaborators and the Bakhtin Circle’s philosophy of culture, it seeks, through questionnaires and interviews, the students’ perspective on the issues focused. The research clipping presented here examines the diversity of student body profiles, their identities as musicians and their potential as educators. The main conclusion drawn from the analysis leads to the need to overcome some dichotomies on which the curriculum structure is based, including the opposition musician/educator.
