Reflections on SoundPainting and its contributions in Primary Education

Abstract

This paper aims to research the possibilities of using Soundpainting as an educational resource for music inside the primary education classroom. Starting off from a qualitative methodology point of view, evidence has been gathered from teachers who have used Soundpainting with primary education students by interviewing them in a semi-structured way, therefore identifying the different musical, personal and social abilities students can develop with this language. Non participant observation has also been used for analysing the recordings of their classes and identifying different musical creation and improvisation activities this tool provides. The results show that by adapting Soundpainting to the student’s level it offers an atmosphere where they can work and promote their relationship with music from a more experiential perspective, giving students the freedom to explore, develop some skills and express themselves.

Doctora en Filosofi?a y Ciencias de la Educacio?n por esta misma universidad y titulada en Pedagogi?a Musical. Es miembro del consejo de direccio?n de la Revista de Psicodida?ctica y del consejo editorial de la revista Eufoni?a: Dida?ctica de la Mu?sica. Ha realizado trabajos y publicaciones acerca de la motivacio?n para el aprendizaje de mu?sica en primaria, principalmente en su relacio?n con las formas de actuacio?n del profesorado y las interacciones que se producen durante la pra?ctica educativa musical. Tambie?n ha investigado acerca de la mu?sica tradicional y su aplicacio?n dida?ctica, el uso de los recursos multimedia en la formacio?n arti?stica del alumnado de Magisterio y los valores y la educacio?n musical.
