The present paper deals with the elaboration process of two cadences – for the first and for the second movement – of the D-major Sonata for flute and obbligato harpsichord, Wq. 83, by Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach. Two works served as a basis for the composition of these two cadences:Versuch einer Anweisung die Flöte traversiere zu spielen by J. J. Quantz, and the treatise Versuch über die wahre Art das Clavier zu spielen, 2nd part (1762), by C. Ph. E. Bach himself. In the first work, published in 1752, a whole chapter is dedicated to the subject, while precious information about this practice is found in the second one. Keywords: C.Ph.E. Bach, 1714-1788; Cadences; Flute and harpsichord; Ornamentation.
