Abstract

The No. XII piece of the poem 'A menina exausta' for piano and singing composed by Cláudio Santoro in 1946 was examined in this work from structural, aesthetic and ideological aspects. It can be considered as a concise piece, without contrasting sections, composed in a dodecaphonic technique, using two series, its structure is closely related to the poem’s structure, indicating a strong link between text and music. This work was considered as representative, with a low degree of indetermination, according to Pareyson (1997) proposition, also representing an utopian standpoint, aiming at social changes, and sharing some other general principles with the Música Viva group.
