Abstract

This article focuses on a preliminary study regarding the uses of drawings on the study of music perception. Firstly, some studies concerning musical perception and the development of children drawing are reviewed. Secondly, data from three experiments held with children between the ages of 6 and 12 in Curitiba, Paraná, are presented. These experiments aimed at describing children’s representations based on their appreciation of different kinds of music, in different contexts (i.e., Egyptian music, contemporary music and live classical music). The results of these three experiments are compared and suggestions for future research in this area are proposed.
