This work is a study of the long slurs in Johann Sebastian Bach´s Ciaccona in D minor (fifth movement of the Partita BWV 1004 for solo violin), and their adaptation in a guitar transcription. Bach´s articulation indications are examined in the light of theoretical and practical references. The discussion also focuses on performance traditions and the various interpretations of the articulation marks left by these traditions.Keywords: Bach; Ciaccona; Articulation; Baroque rhetoric; Performance traditions.
