Abstract

This study aimed to investigate the musical preferences presented by high school students in Vitória, Espírito Santo. Participants were 359 students (53.2% women and 46.8% men), between 14 and 26 years old. The instrument used to collect data was an adapted version of the Questionnaire about musical styles preference (LORENZO; HERRERA; CREMADES, 2008). The results show that students have a clear preference for styles present in popular music, as well as a refusal for classical music styles. Besides, the context aspect seemed to have great importance since musical styles that were not part of the students’ daily life were less listened. Keywords: Informal education; Formal education; Musical preference; Students; High school.
