Abstract

Abstract: Historical study on the development of choro in the Brazilian city of Belo Horizonte, since its migration from Rio de Janeiro in the beginning of the twentieth century to the development of the regional ensembles and their live performances in the city’s early radio stations of the 1930s to the rebirth of choro the 1970s to the musical production of eight selected composers-instrumentalists. The composers’s biographical data and historical facts are based on interviews with composers, instrumentalists and radio announcers. The analysis of musical excerpts and annotated lists of works departed from the collections of original scores found during the research.
