Abstract

The text aims to undertake a study on the location of Italian schools in the neighborhoods of São Paulo city, as well as on the organization of their spaces and times, between the final decades of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century, a period of expressive emigration from the Italian Peninsula and arrival of immigrants in São Paulo. This study is anchored in the references of Cultural History, History of Immigration and History of Education. The documental corpus comprises the book Il Brasile e gli italiani, publication by the editorial team of the Fanfulla newspaper, photographs, consular reports, professors' reports, Public Instruction Yearbooks, books, press, among others. The Italian schools were generally the trustworthy expression of the neighborhoods where they were located, and little or nothing distanced themselves from the physical and pedagogical structure of a large part of the public schools in São Paulo city.
