Abstract

A significant amount of Pedagogy students at Universidade Federal de Goiás identify themselves as black people, in a mostly white campus. Due to that characteristc, this study tries to recognize who these black students are, what are their motivations, their professional goals and yet tries to understand their academic path through the categories "self-esteem", "reframing" and "care". The empirical data were collected through qualitative interviews with self-declared black students, focusing on individual experiences in order to contribute to the studies about the meaning of being black in a college environment.
