Abstract

The process of feminization of educational institutions is a fact that can and should be analyzed from a holistic perspective that involves not only pedagogical and didactic aspects, but also social, anthropological and philosophical aspects. In the case of the great European Universities, which were founded during the Middle Ages, they were born as purely male institutions, that is, without the presence or contribution of women. This discriminatory situation would last for more than seven hundred years since it would be until the 11th century that the first women would have the opportunity to enter these houses of knowledge as students. On the other hand, feminism and its historical and philosophical evolution has been intimately linked to the conquest of various rights of women, among them one of the most important is the right to higher education.

This article presents the results of research carried out to analyse precisely the phenomenon of the feminization of the University of Montpellier and its possible links with the philosophical evolution of European feminism.
