Yeasts are unicellular fungi and cosmopolitan, but with little known occurrence and diversity in the Biome Cerrado. The aim of this work was to evaluate the yeasts diversity in Cerrado fruits. The study was made with three Cerrado native plants: Eugenia lutescens (perinha do cerrado), Campomanesia xanthocarpa (gabiroba) and Brosimum guadichaudii (mama-cadela). The samples were shaken and serially diluted, 0,1 mL of each serial dilution was plated in MYGP culture medium. After incubation, UFC count was made and the morphologically different colonies were isolated in pure culture and characterized. The DNA of isolated yeasts was extracted and amplified by PCR using primers for the D1/D2 region of LSU26S rDNA gene and then sequenced. Nineteen yeasts species were recovered from fruits. The yeasts density was evaluated and it ranged from 2.103 UFC (perinha do cerrado) to 7.103 UFC (mama-cadela) per gram of fruit. Isolated yeasts were grouped into 10 morphotypes according to morphological characteristics. The genera founded were Rhodotorula, Cryptococcus, Candida, Hanseniaspora and Aureobasidium. This study showed that Cerrado plants are suitable habitats for yeasts and may be a source of bioprospecting for bioactive substances with biotechnological applications.
