Statement in support of Open Science
Statement in Support of Open Science with IDEIA (Impact, Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility)
Ciência Animal Brasileira/Brazilian Animal Science (CAB) operates as an open-access scientific journal, making all content freely accessible. Readers are granted the freedom to read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, or link to the full texts of articles for any lawful purpose without the need for prior permission from the publisher or author. CAB's editorial policies continually evolve, prompting periodic reviews and revisions of guidelines and recommendations.
In alignment with the principles of open science and as a means to expedite research dissemination, we strongly encourage authors to share their articles on preprint servers and deposit their data in appropriate repositories. Concerning open peer review, we facilitate the disclosure of the names of the editors responsible for approved articles in the published PDF. Additionally, we adopt policies with reviewers, providing them the opportunity to spontaneously authorize the disclosure of their names after the publication of the evaluated article and the dissemination of their reviews in an open manner.
CAB is steadfast in its commitment to advancing Impact, Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility in scientific research. To this end, the journal has endeavored to integrate principles proposed by the Brazilian Association of Scientific Editors (ABEC), SciElo, and the Sex and Gender Equity in Research (SAGER) guidelines.
The SAGER guidelines are a set of recommendations to guide authors during the preparation of articles so as to incorporate sex and gender dimensions into their studies, data analysis, and result interpretation, as can be seen in the Sex and Gender Equity in Research (SAGER) Guidelines Checklist.
ABEC initiated the DEIA Space (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility) with the primary goal of discussing and publicizing actions aligned with DEIA, guiding editors to adopt these principles in their journals' editorial policies.
SciELO, too, has incorporated these principles, launching Open Science with IDEIA (Impact, Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility) as part of its criteria, policy, and procedures for the admission and retention of journals in the SciELO Brazil Collection.
CAB is committed to promoting equity by valuing its editorial team, editorial board, and list of reviewers, striving for gender, racial, and regional equality. Authors are encouraged to use inclusive language and diversity in bibliographic references, within the scope of their research. The journal recommends adopting a proactive stance to diversify the bibliographic reference in terms of gender, race, ethnicity, and origin (with respect to countries and regions of Brazil, if applicable) of the cited authors. Furthermore, CAB continually seeks to enhance accessibility to published content, with improvements in PDF preparation and website information. The new layout, adopted since 2024, provides a more suitable configuration for reading on digital devices. The chosen font, Open Sans, enhances readability, and its single-column layout ensures a smooth, uninterrupted reading flow, accommodating readers with visual impairments.
