ABOUT IMAGES: (RE) THINKING THE ROLE OF PHOTOGRAPHS IN TEACHING GEOGRAPHY

Before a visual-imagery context, which the images take a proportion of indispensability in life, also participating intensively in educational processes, this essay propose a planning about the role of photos and it presence on Geography teaches. Reviewing some theorists and their proposes, it presents an overview about the paradigms (pre-photographic, photographic and post- photographic) and the principles of image photographic (physical connection, designation, singularity and testimony) is presented. Subsequently, based on the research developed during the doctoral course, in its initial phase with observations of the classes and interviews with the teachers, it is analyzed how these aspects of photographic theory reverberate and are part of school routine and Geography. It is understood that knowing this scenery can facilitate the didactics referrals with the visual resources on teaching of Geography, as the mediators of the elaboration of Geographic knowledge, introducing another ways of looking.
