The regulation of intangible heritage has come a long way in defining normative instruments to implement public policies for recognizing, valuing, and protecting assets in this category. The history of current legislation in the state of Goiás is recent and refers to Decree 8.408/2015 and Normative Instruction 003/2022. This is a preliminary study carried out within the scope of Secretary of State for Culture by the Department for Preservation of Material and Intangible Heritage. In order to meet the proposed objective, we opted for bibliographical research, state and federal legislation on cultural heritage, and institutional documents. Based on the relationship between legislation, cultural heritage, and social identities, the aim is to present an overview of public policies in the state relating to popular culture festivities.
