Thinking about the university and extension from teacher training in the arts in Uruguay

The main objective of this article is to provide an overview of the construction process of a training space oriented to teachers of the "Escuela Nacional de Bellas Artes" Institute of the University of the Republic (UDELAR). Since the implementation of the Didactic Training Project for Teachers of the University in 2001, the Institute "National School of Fine Arts" and the University School of Music have initiated a series of processes of institutional transformation that constitute collective challenges to reflect on the educational project related to the arts at the University, and that finds in the year 2021 with an important milestone from the institutional point of view, with the creation of the Faculty of Arts. The modification of the university structure, linked to the implementation of new careers and the strong commitment to geographical decentralization, are unavoidable elements when analyzing the teaching role in the field of arts education at the University.
