Abstract

This paper is a report of the author’s experience of participation in groups of instant communication applications, whose aim was to understand how anti-science discourse was disseminated and by which mechanisms it was accepted by its members. The authors' participation took place in neo-Pentecostal groups; pro-Bolsonaro groups, and “new age” ones. Through the case report, the authors' impressions, the patterns found, and some outstanding facts will be presented. In all these groups, it was possible to identify anti-scientificism as a common point, even though each one used it in their own way. In the case of pro-Bolsonaro groups, we also identified evidence of what we believe to be a planned, coordinated and well-structured network that acts to promote misinformation and propaganda.
