Abstract

During the last years we can observe an increasing number of Brazilian texts which approach the use of the body musical performance. These texts have raised many new questions, such as: what is stretching and what it its role in performance, how can it contribute to optimize the use of the performer's body, when does it hinder musical execution, or if a sequence of exercises can actually have an effect on results. Answering these questions is the main goal of this paper, which presents Brazilian studies related to the use of the body in musical performance, the concepts of warm-up and stretching, and a proposal for muscular warm-up and stretching for the musician's daily routine.
Keywords: stretching, warm-up, musical performance, human body
