Charisma: um outro espaço feito de sons

Abstract

This paper points out some observations of Iannis Xenakis´s Charisma. An outdoor natural space sensation is evoked, while linking symbolic, analytic and listening aspects of the work. This space sensation is the product of several active forces, from symbolism to disfigured time, from psychoacoustic simulations to the overwhelming power of silence. The main conclusion draws upon the idea that space is not felt through the liebnitzian concept of space as coexistence, nor through space as spatium, interval, but as a product of the sensation of emergence and disappearance (or emptiness), left by that which literally past away; by the ephemeral, as degradation and dissolution of presence.
