This article traces the history of the National Human Rights Education Plan of Brazil (NHREP, 2006), within a larger context of the development of Human Rights Education in Latin America. The article also seeks to outline the main stages in the implementation of NHREP, from its inception, starting from the beginning to diagnose the current historical scenario of loss of rights and infrequent setbacks to Human Rights Education, looking to describe the twelve major current challenges of NHREP.
