Abstract

The treatment given to history of Contemporary Africa in textbooks of 5 th to 8 th grade is the main subject of this article. Th e focus elected and the issues raised are articulated around a central consideration: how the texts, images and interpretationsmade by school books diverge or converge in relation to the so-calledimaginary Brazilian built on Africa and the Africans. As a general framework it is asuperfi cial analysis of the recent trajectories of the countries in African societies ina repeat of representations and stereotypes disclosed on the continent.
