DIFFERENCES BETWEEN UNDERSTANDING AND APPLYING RULES OF THE CODE OF POINTS IN THE VIEW OF BRAZILIAN ARTISTIC GYMNASTICS JUDGES

Abstract

This study articulates relationships between the levels of understanding that Brazilian Men’s and Women’s Artistic Gymnastics judges have about the rules set forth in the Code of Points, and how the application of these concepts occurs during the moment of professional performance in competitions. The sample was composed of 58 judges, who worked at the National or International level in the period 2017-2020. The data were obtained through specific questionnaires for each of the sports, applied virtually. It was identified that there is a difference between the understanding of some specific items of the Code, generating reflections about how the document is formulated, and how the judges' formation process is important to remedy such deficiencies.
